Welcome 2010 - is this the year of your wedding?
Well, the first decade of the millennium is finally over, and a new one has begun. This year is supposed to be an exciting one, in astrological terms -full of changes - so getting married in 2010 could be a great thing to do! While some of us are glad that 2009 is history, for many couples 2009 was the year they tied the knot and they will have wonderful memories of that year to cherish forever.
This year we at Hour Weddings believe there will be more weddings than ever in Gibraltar, thanks in part to the changes that the Marriage Registry has made – namely in extending the time slots to perform ceremonies in the evenings and weekends. Plus, 2010 is a cool sounding year to get married, don’t you agree? I would LOVE to have been married on the 2nd Jan 2010! Lovely, unforgettable. Well, its too late for me – but I am thinking of other great dates that will fall this year, and wondering how many couples have already booked their wedding on these special dates? Take 20/01/2010, or 10/02/2010, or 4/3/2010! Then of course, there is 20/10/2010.Nice!
A new year also means new trends – and the wedding industry is no different to other industries. In fact, if your wedding is this year, we are sure you have already scoured the shops and websites to see what’s cool and new for 2010. But just in case you haven’t, we did a little searching through the Net ourselves and found some useful tips for you to think about when preparing for that big day!
Wedding trends – whats new and hip?
Being ecological is one of the things you should do if you want to be on trend! Being ecologically conscious and applying it to your wedding could not be more chic. Its all about being creative and personalised glamour. Choosing recycled paper invitations, organic flowers, having the groom arrive on a bicycle, even buying a wedding dress from a vintage store!
Romantic Dresses
Yes we are back to the era of romance as dresses become more romantic, with layers of classic soft flowy fabrics. There are also the fun elements in wedding dress design, such as very short dresses, as well as the application of real flowers on the dresses. And lace too, reminds us of the dresses of the 1930s.
Shorter cocktail hour
One of the biggest trends is a shorter cocktail hour. In order to avoid keeping guests “on hold” for several hours, while serving hor d’oeuvres, signature cocktails and some music, cocktail hour has been reduced to less than 60 minutes – right before the main course, which now takes the spotlight. The trend for 2010 is more fun in less time. The idea is a shorter, but chic cocktail hour.
Tall wedding cakes
For 2010 wedding cakes will be so much taller and elegant – we are talking 5 and 7 layer cakes – creating a certain drama to the occasion (as if you needed more!)
Personalization
Distinguishing and making each detail more personal is also a growing trend and in 2010 it will grow full force. Inscribing the bride and groom’s initials on the wedding’s different details: invitations, cards, lighting, dinner plates, decoration, top of the wedding cake… is a very popular trend.
Sharing the wedding on social media
There is no better way to broadcast the wedding live than through a social media network. Asking the photographer to upload just taken photographs on Facebook or having the bride, groom or their friends, update the big event on Twitter is a new trend.
Edible wedding favours
Regional sweets and pastries are a big trend when it comes to wedding favors, but choosing favors that are reminiscent of childhood or of a special moment in the bride and groom’s lives is definitely the new trend.
There are hundreds of blogs out there providing you with ideas and wonderful tips, so if you are looking for something special that makes your wedding stand out from the rest, go search on the Net, or better still, ask us, and we’ll find something for you! Happy 2010 from all of us at Hour Weddings!
